“The Very Mad Science of Dr. Morcant Hollow” by Hamilton Kohl

This is a very mad book in many senses. It is a light hearted spoof that maintains the macabre sense of the Horror genre by making fun of it. Be prepared for a complete lack of logic or veracity. The only connection to reality is that every event contains its own logic, however warped.

The author takes every meme of the genre from Frankenstein to The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix and presents each one in mangled fashion.

The plotline would be simple if it wasn’t messed up by the cleverest takeoff on the time travel paradox I have seen.

The main character is an interesting study, because it is a first-person point of view of someone who considers his bonkers world and his own looney behaviour is completely normal.

This is a short tale, most likely the opening story in a series. I’m looking forward to more. There are a whole lot too many questions left unanswered. Especially about the cat.
