Scream on, You Bastards

This article is going to offend some people, because it’s will strike a nerve that is becoming more and more exposed as time ticks down towards the deadline for change. And the angrier you get, the more you need to hear this.

Here’s the point: if a lot of people don’t get over their greed, they aren’t going to burn in hell. They’re going to burn right here on earth with the rest of us. And for once, their voraciously hoarded wealth isn’t going to protect them.

CLIMATE CHANGE!
Sorry to the rest of you folks about the shouting, but I’m trying to get through the static of selfishness that surrounds those whose ears are only tuned to the chink of money. In case it hasn’t come to your attention, there are too many people on this planet. Epidemics are just Mother Nature’s way of pruning the overburdened tree a bit. We have overwhelmed our environment, and it is reacting in predictable ways.

Fire, Flood, and Pestilence

The predicters of Armageddon came so close it’s enough to send you back to reading the Old Testament. Of course, those old-time guys thought it was some sort of deity raining retribution on them. Their solution was to bow down to the rightful representatives of that deity and do what they were told, like good little serfs.

Insanity is doing the same action over and over, expecting a different result – Albert Einstein.

We’ve been obeying what our elite leaders tell us for centuries, now, and somehow things have improved only for them. It’s time to get sane, folks, and stop listening to the economic idiots who insist that everything is fine as long as the stock market keeps rising. Which it has, despite the worst that pestilence has thrown at us lately. Is there a message in that, or do you need it written in letters of fire?

Carbon Pricing: the Sky is Falling!!!

On the news last night, there was fat cat Doug Ford going on and on about how Trudeau’s carbon pricing is going to take food out of the mouths of children and the poor and raise the price of gas to *Gasp!* a buck and a quarter in a few years. Heaven knows what Jason Kenney is saying. And I mean that literally. I’m sure he’s looking for divine intervention to defend the righteous profiteer from this monstrous attack on Free Enterprise and his right to squeeze every oily penny he can out of the workers and the government.

Got news for you, boys. The targets set out by the Paris accord and, more recently, the Trudeau government, are NOT good enough. If we really, really try hard and get everybody to cooperate, we still won’t stop global warming. As far as I can see, this is just the trial run to get everybody tuned up to what’s happening. More restrictions are on the way for future generations. Get used to it.

It’s Going to Get Worse

The COVID epidemic has had one good effect. It has made us realize that yes, good old Mum Earth is prepared to take action. We don’t hear anybody sane arguing that COVID isn’t happening. We don’t hear anybody credible telling us that climate change is merely caused by statistical anomalies.

And while we’re on the topic, has anyone noticed that the COVID epidemic is hitting business-friendly Ontario and Alberta heavier than anyone else? *Gasp!* Could it possibly be that putting the needs of business ahead of the needs of the population might be — wait for it — not good for the population? Lordy, lordy, what’s the world coming to?

The Bottom Line

We have to stop letting the heads of business set our agenda. They’re in it for themselves, they’re mostly over fifty years old and they don’t care what happens to the world thirty years from now. Even average citizens have to be ready to pay our share. The good old days of fifty-cent-a-gallon gasoline are over, and now we have to pay the rest of the price. Time to tighten our belts, get together, and fight this thing as best we can so that our grandchildren have a chance to beat it.

And let’s see the screamers for what they are: selfish spoiled brats throwing tantrums because finally someone said, “No.”
