Publishing early next week, in case the Republicans implode big-time before Sunday!
The upsurge of violence in the United States seems very difficult to deal with. Is it general racism? Is it a flawed policing system? Is it the proliferation of guns? While these factors carry their share, I place responsibility for the violence directly at the feet of Donald Trump and the Far Right Republicans. Which gives me hope for the future. Here’s why.
Levels of Society
Every political movement is built in tiers. In the middle there is the majority of moderates. Then there is a more radical wing. Then, way out in never-never land there is a tiny group of nutters that aren’t really political: more like mentally unstable. The problem with these fanatics is that they consider themselves part of the movement, and they listen to the media coverage of the rest of the party, especially the radicals, for support and ideas.
As the upswing in racist activity after the Brexit vote showed, this group takes heart the moment “their” party makes any advances or espouses any strong positions, especially radical ones.
So it doesn’t take a leap of rocket-science logic to see that when one of the radicals takes a powerful position in the mainstream, the crazies are listening avidly, certain that finally “their kind” are going to take over and rule. Remember the “Everyone thinks he’s a good guy” rule. The psychos, in their twisted way, are looking for an excuse, just like everyone else.
So when a bunch of moderates are having fun after a few beers and sounding off about doing things they would never really do, there is always someone listening who has a lower moral and social conscience, who actually would do that deed, and just needs the approbation of the majority to tip him over the edge.
So when people (mentioning no names, because I don’t need to) mouth off for the purpose of entertaining their friends or making political points, they need to realize that their words might carry further and be taken more literally than they expect.
As I have been known to opine, they should consider one salient point:
“The nutter who will commit the next atrocity is listening to you.”
Thus the deaths of the policemen in Dallas and Baton Rouge are a direct result of Trump’s rabble-rousing. Think about that before you vote.
My prediction is that this problem will continue to get worse as the American election campaign ramps up, and will all fade back to “normal” levels once Trump is trumped. If the Americans are lucky, the Republican Party will be trounced, and (except for a temporary upswing of activity on the part of the rabid Left) the Democrats will have a chance to move the country forward.
