“Honey-bun, I thought I’d take a shower.  Are you in…  Plucking hairs again?  Why do you bother?  They’ll just grow back.”

“Why do you bother showering?  You’ll just get smelly again.”

“Blast it – there’s a whole trail of ants running across the shower wall.”

“Gee, they’re teeny ones. Look, they’re coming out of this hole in the grout.”

“Hand me the bathroom cleaner.  I’ll get them.”

****

Smell nestmate – turn – skitter – smell NOT-NESTMATE – ATTACK– smell ATTACK over THERE –ATTACK – find no not-nestmate – turn – skitter– smell nestmate –

“Funny how the little ones are in the bathroom and the bigger ones are here in the kitchen. They’re never together.”

“More ants?  I’m getting the bug spray.”

“I was reading up on them in Wikipedia.  Ants are amazing.  Leaf cutter ants don’t eat the leaves they cut.  They grow a fungus on the leaves inside the nest, and eat the fungus.  Then there’s another kind of ant that herds caterpillars…”

“I don’t care what they eat as long as it’s not in my house.”

“Ugh.  That stuff stinks.”

“Gets rid of them though.”

Smell nest – drop food – touch nestmate – skitter outside – smell FOOD TRAIL – follow trail– find FOOD – take food, follow trail back, drop food – touch nestmate – follow trail

“Would you help me unpack the shopping? Darn, more ants. I’m getting tired of wiping them off the counter – there’s got to be a better way.”

“I bought some stuff someone recommended.  It goes outside the house, around the doors and windows and cracks. That’ll take care of them.”

“I wonder. At least it’ll keep them out for awhile.”

“Shampoo, aspirin…what’s this, honey-bun, not another anti-wrinkle cream?”
