Airborn Press is at the moment the self-publishing vehicle for author, playwright, and director Gordon A. Long. We have been in business since our first publication, "Expressive Poetry Performance," in 2001. It is hoped that in the future we will attract other writers who wish to self-publish, and aid them in fulfilling their dreams.

We are in the process of building the experience and staff to provide full editing and publishing services for the ebook market. We have access to four professional editors, one proof-reader, and one graphic artist.

Our usual epublishing company is Smashwords, and we use Createspace for our hardcopy work. Our products are available on amazon.com and in local bookstores in the Vancouver, B. C. area.

                                                   Gordon A. Long

Gordon Long was born and brought up in Northern British Columbia. He spent the first years of his life in isolated logging camps where radio reception was poor, so reading and listening to his father's storytelling are among his first memories.

He was educated at University of British Columbia, attaining degrees in Englilsh (BA) and Theatre (MA) and a Teaching Certificate. He spent 27 years teaching for School District #57 (Prince George), during which time he was officially assigned to all grade levels, K-12, excepting only Grade 1. All the years that he was teaching, he also maintained a lively presence in the theatre community, writing and directing plays and musicals in schools and community theatre.

A trained theatre technician, he worked as stage manager for Vanier Hall, an 800-seat road house connected to Prince George Secondary School. In that capacity, he has worked with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the National Art Centre Orchestra, the Kirov Ballet, Leona Boyd, Sharon, Lois, and Bram, and a host of other internationally-known performers.  He was the founding Technical Director for the Prince George Children's Festival. From 2000 to 2004 he ran Fort George Follies, a professional theatre company specializing in Vaudeville-style entertainment for conventions and summer tourists.

His television and film experience includes two years in the Art department at CBC's Vancouver studio, working as part-time stage hand, set painter, set decorator, carpenter, and special effects technician. More recently he has done SFX construction for several Independent films in the Vancouver Area, receiving a Leo Award for Production Design (Shared with Dusty Hagerud, Airborn's inhouse Graphic Artist) for "The Anachronism," an award-winning science fiction short drama.

In 2005 he retired from regular classroom teaching and moved to Tsawwassen, where he continues his theatre and writing interests. From 2006 to 2012, he directed The Society for the Preservation of Vaudeville. In 2010 he was Supervisor of Victory Ceremonies at the Richmond Olympic Oval for the Vancouver Winter Olympics. In 2011 he created Generations, the Surrey Intergenerational Theatre Troupe. He gives workshops to teachers on the techniques of coaching Spoken Language in the classroom, and on conflict reduction and anti-bullying.

In between all these professional activities, he has managed to travel extensively, including taking his family around the world for a year in 1993-94, and visiting France at least once every two years for the past decade. He also crews on racing yachts, and has chalked up 6000 nautical miles of bluewater sailboat deliveries. His training in wrestling, karate, judo, and fencing help him deal with fight choreography on stage and in his novels. He is a photographer, a musician, a skier/snowboarder, and loves French wine. And Chilean wine. And Spanish wine. And a lot of other wines as well, come to think of it.

At the moment he and his Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Josh, are taking Agility training, although it is questionable who is learning the most.
